Allergic reactions?

This may well be the most paranoid question i have ever asked, but its worth asking nonetheless:

If all goes well, i will be able to order to a Padouk/Pau Ferro neck...

Whats the potential for an allergic reaction with either wood?

Go ahead and do it.  But make sure you do your will first, and name me beneficiary.  That way, if you go into anaphylaxis as soon as you touch the neck, then I can take it off of your hands.  :icon_biggrin:

Seriously, the risk is slim to none.  Enjoy the raw wood.

Generally, almost all allergeic reactions to wood are from working with it in a way that would cause sawdust.  Cutting, planing sanding.  I have personally never heard of someone having an allergic reaction to just touching the wood.  Not saying it doesn't happen, I think it just extremely rare.  Having said that, I have no known allergies, and I never worry about that crap, so I'm probably not that much help.

Do you have a lot of allergies?  I'm allergic to a lot of weird things, but I've never had a problem with wood.

Actually, i dont think i have ever been allergic to anything in my life, but like i said, i get paranoid about trivial things.  :toothy12:

One of the most notorious is Cocobolo. Even if you're not allergic to it initially, you will most likely develop a reaction after working with it over time. But that's just if you're actually cutting, sanding, generating dust, etc. (which is why Warmoth doesn't bother with it.) But I have zero problems with a Cocobolo fretboard on my current #1, and I have all sorts of allergies. And the neck is actual Padouk, unfinished, no problem. I actually haven't heard of problems with Padouk, and only very limited cases with Pau Ferro.

But if you're just playing the neck and not sanding the wood, I think you'll have no problem.

No history of allergies, and you're not going to be around the sawdust... I think you're gonna be fine, and your neck is gonna play like butter.
