Allen / Hex set screws for knobs?

Has anyone discovered where to get Allen / Hex key set screws that will replace the slotted screws for these knobs that Warmoth sells?

I'd bet they have 'em at McMaster-Carr and Grainger, if you want to go prospecting.

but I don't know the size or thread size.
If I knew the specs ... or how to determine the specs I guess I'd be able to find them.

Can anyone help with figuring out how to determine the size and thread size?

I'm guessing that it's safe to assume that there's been no reason to change the original specification
and this guy here says the original fender set screws were 8-32.

If you have a decent hardware store nearby, just take your knobs there and ask to be shown the hex head set-screws.

Thanks. Yea. That would be sensible, but I took a chance and ordered a 10 pack of 8-32.
I'll let you know it they're the right size.

It's a no-go with the fit to the knobs that Warmoth sells that use slotted screws.
The tread count is different with the slotted screws so it won't thread into the hole.
The threads on the slotted screw seem to be slightly closer together.

However, the slotted screws that are in the knobs that are on my 1980's G&L f-100 MK II
are an exact match to 8-32 and the hex screws fit those.

Also they are the same hex screws that are in the knobs on my '76 Music Man stingray,
but I can't be sure that the knobs on that are actually the same ones that were issued when it was new.

They also fit a spare dome knob that I found in my parts box, but I'm sure I got that one off eBay a long time ago.

The moral of the story seems to be if I want knobs with hex screws in them then get those from the git go!
