Does anyone here have a neck made out of cocobolo? If so, how does it sound & feel?

I'm itching to get one when I saw the lava tele neck in another thread, but its such a rare wood that I'm scared of the tonal outcome.

They are GAS-inspiring aren't they? No clue on the feel or sound, but I would think it would be somewhere around a rosewood tonally (but that's just a wingnut's wild guess). One think that might help a little bit is to take a quick peep at the utgf (Unofficial Taylor Guitar Forum), as Taylor makes some Cocobolo bodied guitars. Hopefully that might give some idea of what it might sound like.

I find my Cocobolo it to be very similar in feel to Pau Ferro. It may be just a hair more waxy, but I didn't really notice it until I compare them directly.

Tonally, it is a little warmer than Pau Ferro, but not in extreme. It is probably more like Bacote (played but don't own), but seems a little brighter than Goncalo and is definitely brighter than Rosewood (played but don't own). I get good broad spectrum tone and plenty of sustain. Pau Ferro is still my absolute favorite neck wood, but I really love my Cocobolo neck too and wouldn't hesitate to get another!

And, every Cocobolo neck I have ever seen was total Wood Porn, so I don't think you would ever regret getting one!  :icon_thumright:

Check out the 'Neck Woods' section of Warmoth's
Neck Builder--they give a description and a visual of the brightness/warmth in relation to other
neck woods.

My cocobolo neck is not Warmoth made, but it sounds incredible.  One of the best I've ever heard.  Mine has a flamed maple board.
