AEROCASTER - Tele Thinline

Okay, I officially have decided I hate how screws look sitting in the neckplates on contoured Necks.

I've seen more than once where someone has deleted the neckplate, then countersunk holes to hold finish washers

From the looks of those screws, he must have installed inserts in the neck as well. The original post also mentions that those screw holes needed to be relocated, as they're too close to the edges to pull off that trick. That means you've got doweling, finishing, redrilling, etc. to do in both the body and the neck.

So, you really gotta want that look, as it's not as easy to achieve as it would appear at first blush.

That is a really great looking Tele  :icon_thumright:...but I think you should disassemble it right away....'cause there is no way I'm going up against that for GOTM.

the guitar is magnificent.

but those screws are wigging me.

:laughing7: 'cmon, that ain't that bad...it's the back side anyway...as long as it's properly screwed...

Was this top on the site or did you just luck out & get an incredible piece by chance? That's the nicest rosewood top I've seen on a Warmoth so far.

Yeah, the Watershed fellow does that. the trick is to pay the upcharge for an undrilled body and neck. but as much as it costs to have it done, combined with the fact that it would destroy any finish. just means I might as well do an AANJ while I'm at it.

Actually. that is probably what I'll do.

Also... I cant stop staring at the neck on this thing. its hypnotic.

ROBR, NONSENSETALE, thanks.  I've gotta give luthier Jim Mozell credit for the beautiful work he did assembling the pieces.

DOUGHBOY,  I ordered the body from scratch.  Spent a lot of time looking at various tops.  It came down to a choice of 3 figured mahogany tops and about 3-4 rosewood tops.  My youngest daughter liked this one (looked like a smiling face), and that cinched it.

Here's the original photo of the rosewood top before it got worked on.  You can see that some of it gets lost in the routing and hardware.

There is at least one other rosewood top of similar quality you can select right now on the body builder.

The main mahogany body piece was selected for me by someone at the Warmoth production shop.  I suspect it was chosen to match the quality of the rosewood.  Take a look at the second photo I posted of the back…  The mahogany is almost luminescent, and has a subtle figured swirly thing going on all over.  I don't spend a lot of time looking a the back of a guitar, but this piece is really something.  It's a single piece of maho.  Thanks, Warmoth.

AEROCASTER, you have an amazing guitar. If it sounds 1/10 as good as it looks, it will sound incredible.

What qualities do you think the chambering added to your guitar that a solibody wouldn't have?

All of my chambered strats sound a little twangy on the higher strings, where as the solidbodies sound totally even throughout.

Because of the crappy monitor I'm using at the moment I thought the thread title was "afrocaster."

This is very nice too, but I really had my hopes up to see an afrocaster tele.

BLACKDOG,..  Damn! …  what it is?!

DOUGHBOY, I honestly don't think the chambering does too much to the sound once you get it amped, unless you're playing at extremely high volumes.  The pickups just get the string vibe created by the neck wood and the bridge…  I think that's the combination that ultimately gives you 'the sound'.

That said, I do like the lighter weight of a hollow body, and it does have a slightly acoustic quality when I'm sitting on the couch without amp.  I like that a lot.

The Harmonic Design '54 Specials give a really smooth balanced sound - smooth articulated  highs, chimey mids and lower ranges, and no muddiness - beautiful Tele sound.  That definitely gives this guitar an edge through an amp.  It's the first time I've used them, and I recommend them highly…

A few posters mentioned entering this Tele in the Guitar of the Month… exactly where do you enter it?  I don't see the thread….

Now... that AFROCASTER idea.  That could be very interesting....

cheers

Again, that is just one beautiful tele.  I am really lovin' it.

Follow the link that DangerousR6 posted.  Doug makes some of the coolest custom neck plates around.
Just the right finishing touch to personalize your geetar...
