took apart old washburn. made a body and bought neck from here. transferred  measurements/ hardware from washburn to new body. strings are 1/4" too high. floyd rose is down all the way.
looking for ideas.
can "shim" neck 1/4" but that wont look, feel right
can route tremolo deeper ,but i made a bigger brass sustain block, it will stick out back. unless i put a 1/4" wood around cavity on back.
any thoughts?? :dontknow:

You won't have to shim the neck a 1/4 inch to get you a 1/4 inch at the bridge. But still........can you route an angle into the neck pocket? That's really your best bet. You would need to shim a base of some sort on top of the body that would provide your desired angle. To minimize catastrophe I would use the existing neck pocket as your guide. :dontknow:  maybe someone else has a better idea. Good Luck! :headbang:

Pablo's right.

If the Floyd is top-mounted (non-recessed), you need an angled neck pocket to accommodate the height of the bridge. You can either shim the neck, or re-route it to put about a 3 degree angle on it. Small differences there make large differences in string height, so it's unlikely you'll notice it at all.

I prefer the routing option, as it keeps the neck in good contact with the body. Get a short (1/2" or so) pattern bit such as a Whiteside 3001 and a neck pocket template such as StewMac's # 1120, and mount the template at a 3 degree angle so you have a floor to drive the router on. You may need to tape around the inside of the template hole to shrink it a bit; mine was a tad too big. I think they make them 2 1/4" wide and you need 2 3/16".

Although it might look a bit hokey, I know someone who just put a neck plate as a total shim in between the body and the neck, right in the pocket.

No angle, not pretty, but was indeed functional, lol.

Still, the routed angle is still the best option. :icon_thumright:
