Acoustic Repair Question

Someone sent me these photos of a Takamine 12-string. Notice that the neck has shifted to the treble side due to the reduced support of the split top.

I don't think this is a very possible repair, and I've never done anything like this. My fear is that even if I somehow wrestle the neck back in line (and I don't have any tools or experience for acoustics), the repair then bears the load.

The person is asking whether or not they should buy it at 80% off list and have me do the repair. I don't think its a good idea, but maybe it's an easier fix than I thought.

Opinions?

Thanks in advance,
Sean

Oooh, ugly stuff. I don't see how you could repair that and still be confident that it wouldn't happen again. I imagine trying to re-align it could cause even more damage. I would recommend "staying away from that one like the plague".

Its a shame, because the Takamine 12's a re beautifully constructed instruments.

I've seen plenty of deconstructions of acoustics for repair, and that is not beyond repair, most likely would involve a new top...But it's still ugly...

The first thing you have to figure out is what caused the damage. Is it from some sort of structural defect or is it trauma or was it both? In any event I would most certainly pass on this job. It would be pretty fun and a great learning experience. Just not a financially sound or savvy business decision.

I like the use of the word "trauma".. Like it was in a car wreck.....Get it to the ER stat!!!!!!!!!. :laughing11:
