I have grown tired of the looks of my very 1st warmoth...an all maple tele.  So today I decided to redo the wood work.  Keeping the budget tight I will be reusing the hardware and electronics since I am very happy with them.

Here are some photos of the before...

I have no idea what to finish it with...I was thinking a blue or washed blue finish....

any ideas??

Honestly, with wood like that any translucent color would look great.  I would try to get something that would make it stand out ever more than it already does though, but I'm weird like that :laughing7:  I could picture it in purple very easily.

I was thinking purple too.  My only area I do not like the wood is by the forearm contour.  I may try to hide some of that with a burst.

I would go with a purple or green, personally. I'm a big fan of purple guitars. I wouldn't cover up the forearm myself, it's an interesting change from the lower horn. Go with what you prefer, though. Personally I love the entire piece, and would choose a nice purple. Second choice would be green, though you really have to love green to go with a green guitar.

Nice maple top, very un-pedestrian.... :icon_thumright:

Clear would be my choice. Or a subtle PRS like vintage burst. That is one nice maple top, sir.

Some kind of burst, Cherry or Fire, will look awesome with that Quilted Maple face.  Noticing that you are a double cut Junior fan, a new bridge will give the guitar a new vibe and looks.

I'm with reinhold on this one - any transparent color is going to look good on a figured wood like that.

Do you have more than one guitar, or have you had others in the past? Pick a color you don't have or haven't already had.

I pulled the trigger on some trans blue dye.  That is the only color I do not have at this time.  I am think a burst look...darker on the edges, very light in the middle.

OK.  Decided on Blue dye.  Because of the wild maple grain and no real pattern, I decided to go with a worn/played finish with a slight burst  Also, the maple took the blue SO well it was looking like a crayon.

I am not proficient with spraying do I did a poor mans wipe on burst.  My goal is to have it looks played and comfy, like an old pair of blue jeans! (I am working on ideas for a Dangerous neckplate!)

The poor mans burst

Some careful placed sanding..still needs some work on the lower left body contour.  The "burst" line is still too defined.  Sanding sponges are your FRIEND!

I did some work on the neck with dye and stain and various degrees of sanding thru the original finish to create a worn look.

next is some final sanding and then clear..... :cool01:

yes...I am going to try to remove of the gold finish so it looks worn.  a Little rubbing compound does the trick.

Trans-blue/Marykay!

most blue jeans have brass rivets, but some of the main buttons war thru to some sort of silver-colored metal. a worn-thru look could be cool. you need to have a piece of leather coating the neckplate . . . pull one off your old Levi's or something.  :icon_thumright:

then you just get a blue jean neck strap, clip a hammer and a tape measure to it, and you're set!

I'm not proficient with spraying either, and haven't tried this but something that sounds like it warrants a try....

Take a sheet of cardboard, cut it out in the shape of the guitar minus an inch or two around the edge. Stick a lump of clay in the pickup cavites and control cavities, hold the mask a couple inches floating above the guitar. Spray. The further the mask is from the guitar, the more gradual the blend.

for my next trick...I may do my sons lp...he wants a sunburst finish...I have try my hand at dye, seal, spray burst, and clear... :occasion14:

I did that with this guitar:

Worked pretty good.
