A Flame Tele for rapfohl09

Oh dear god. I have been waiting for some pics (quite impatiently) and oh dear...

I'm speechless, I can't wait to show my girlfriend. Thanks Tonar, it looks incredible :icon_thumright:

OK here is a step-by-step on how I'm filling the back of this baby. I’m using McFadden’s oil based paste filler, which I’m not real fond of but it works for what I want to accomplish.  First this has been sealed with two coats of finish so the filler will not change the color of the wood. I tape the edge between the top and the back with 1/4" tape just to protect the edge of the maple from the abrasiveness of the burlap when I rub along the line.

I brush on the filler with the grain using a natural bristle brush.

Once the filler has flashed off it is ready to remove. I tired to squeegee the excess off with a rubber squeegee but it had set up to much so the squeegee only put the lines in it. No problem I'll just have to work a little harder with the burlap

I use the burlap across the grain

Now I take a toothpick and clean out the holes and along any routes.

Pull the tape and we have a perfect edge.

This is a beautiful piece of Mahogany.  I’ll let it set for a few days and then I’ll shoot some more clear and once it is level I’ll move to bursting the top.

That filler doesn't look like it did much filling. Is it just too soon to tell, or are you expecting some help from the finish, or is the intention to leave some texture to the finish?

not answering for him, but i would like a little bit of texture to come through if i was finishing a wood like mahogany.

Looks awesome, I'm not really fond of bursts, so I'd leave it as is.... :headbang:

It's already pretty attractive as is, and could quite easily stand alone as a showpiece. But, Tonar doesn't do K-Mart bursts, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's in the works here.

I'm not really fond of bursts,
What?  :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

Actually I was never a big fan of burst guitars until I started painting them and now I'm addicted to a good-looking burst job.
They are magical and increase tone by 20%.  :toothy11:

Wow it looks amazing! I am so glad that I sent this to you Tonar!

Cagey, it's funny that you say that because the original plan for this guitar was exactly that. An amber/yellow top and a clear back. But then I saw Tonar's On Fire tele and had to have it!

Burstday today for this beauty.  rapfohl09 is thinking about having me add some faded red and wanted to see pictures after I got the black on the top.  I’ll be more than happy to add the red but I say stand down now, this thing looks killer as is.  This top has a ton of character. So do I shoot some red or keep going with clear?
After the burst.

After the melt coat of clear.

Oh god...

I love it just the way it is, but the final decision is my girlfriend's. I think she will share the same opinion :icon_thumright:

Tonar you are doing such a fantastic job. My heart litterally skipped a beat when I saw it. Just a message to everyone, you can't understand the feeling of watching Tonar work on your guitar until you get your own Tonarcaster.

So seriously, get one!! :icon_thumright:
