6150 frets: wide or medium?

I am about to buy tools to do my own fretwork. My current main guitar has super jumbo frets (so that's wide), but I am not sure what I need to crown the 6150 frets on my strat: will the wide file be OK, or do I need a medium file?

Buy a file that does both.

There are two pictured; one is 150 grit, the other is 300. Just get the 300 grit part. The 150 is too aggressive, and you'll spend a lot more time cleaning up after it. Slow is good when you're grinding on frets anyway. Both files have a wide and medium side to them. They're also diamond files, so you can do stainless frets.

They're pricey little rascals, but they're worth it.

Oh, great! I did not notice it, I may have confused it with their standard double-edge file.

I was thinking of getting their dual-grit diamond file but as you point out a single file with constant grit and two widths will be better than one with one width and two grits. And cheaper too.

So, that's settled. Thanks again Cagey.

I am also getting these to shape the end of the frets, from what I read in another topic they should be great.

Those are nice. I also get a lot of use out of this file. It's fairly fast-cutting and easy to manipulate. Tough to beat at the price, but stainless will wear them faster than the diamond files. I use them for rough shaping on the ends, then finish up with the diamond files you've pointed out, then polish from there.

Just adding a link. Just if ya missed it.  :dontknow:
