I was having a conversation about Kurt Cobain the other day, while I just happened to be tweaking/tuning my nearly finished build for my brother, and I suddenly thought simultaneously:
"Hey! Once this is done & shipped out, I won't have a regular fretted guitar!" and "Hmm, he came up with* the Jagstang, didn't he? What an oddly sexy instrument." However, having rather large bass player hands with long fingers means a 24" scale instrument wouldn't be too comfy for me - I'm looking at a Superwide Fatback neck for my next build for myself.
I'd love to have the option to have a Mustang or Jagstang body with a regular neck & bridge options (Jaguar fans already have the Jazzmaster). No need to completely revise the CNC pattern - I'm fine with the top rout only option, and I'd even be cool with the "No bridge rout" option, & place it myself. But without a regular neck pocket**, there's not much good in getting a regular bridge/neck.
I can't imagine it would be all that hard to revise the CNC pattern for those two guitars, since it's not designing a new body. Plus, it could open up a lot more business from folks who might want those smaller bodies with the regular*** slew of bridge options. This expands the universe of possible combinations of necks & bodies, for example the option to do MusicMasters with a period correct Fender "Arrow" headstock (already made by W :icon_biggrin
, along with many, many others.
Who's with me?
* - Yes, it was really the designers at Fender in their custom shop who put it together & did the heavy lifting from an engineering standpoint, but it was Kurt's desire to fuse what were, in his opinion, the best aspects of the Mustang & Jaguar, along with his star power to get Fender to pay attention.
** - For those unaware, there's this little tidbit from the Jaguar page: "This is the little brother to the Jazzmaster. The basic body shape is nearly the same, only some minor proportion changes in the neck pocket area. The scale length however is only 24", great for players with small hands. Neck pocket is angled to function properly with the vintage bridge."
*** - Yes, I recognize that the Mustang body is only 1.5" thick, thus many trem options are out. Could they not add a disclaimer?
