1 pickup in 2 very different guitars = how much difference in tone?

Hey guys! I made another stupid guitar experiment today.

The only thing this video proves is that different guitars can sound different. Amazing? Maybe not.
However, WHAT makes difference? It's the same amp and pickup in both guitars. So what makes the difference?
Is it the wood? I honestly still dont put too much money into this being the contributing factor.
Is it the bridge? More likely, yes. I have changed bridges on other gutiars, with audiable differences, so it wasn't anything new to me.

GUITAR A:
Warmoth roasted maple neck with rosewood fretboard (just before CITES moahahhah!!!)
Hosco alder body
Gotoh hardtail

GUITAR B:
Warmoth maple neck
Warmoth basswood body
Original Floyd Rose

Why not the wood? If anybody has seen this video below, this confirms the differences in my video. There's more audiable difference in Segeborns video, but the differences are of the same character, but on different levels.

To know if the wood matters, takes a whole other experiment to prove. I know there's pro and anti videos already out there, and I think I've seen them all, but I want to do one myself as well because I like doing this stuff. :turtle:

In the first video, I don't hear enough difference to talk about. In the second (w/ the LPs), it's what I'd expect: the guitar with the Floyd has less high end. But, it's not a controlled experiment so you can't settle any bets with it. It is as you say - the only thing these videos prove is that two different guitars can sound different. Not exactly a stunning revelation.

You're right, in this case, a MIG OFR sounds darker/duller (however you want to say it) than the fixed bridge comparison, but wouldn't somebody else just call it "fatter"?

Which is a bit funny because almost every time I have read online forums about Floyd Roses, the general opinion is that they are "thinner".  :icon_biggrin:

For example in this forum thread. Lots of "tone gurus" talking about how thin Floyd Roses sounds compared to hardtail versions.
Yet NOBODY talks about Floyd Roses sounding darker/duller.  :laughing11:

Even tho these two experiments above in OP shows that's exactly what they do...

And it's not really about making any "stunning revelation"
It's just providing more "empirical evidence" to the world :)

Ya...the "internet logic" is that Floyd's make tone "thinner". Definitely not the case in that video.

There are a million other things that "internet logic" gets wrong about tone too...none more so than the idea that you can use some fantastic formula to figure out what a guitar will sound like, without actually building it and playing it.

Nice video Cederick! I appreciate any attempt to demonstrate how things affect tone. It's really tough to do it in video, and even tougher to win people's "hearts and minds." Many people decide what they are going to hear before they even hear it.

Another variable here would be pickup height I suppose, that can pretty significantly alter tone.

I measuered action and pickup height to be so similar as possible.  :glasses10:
