    Hog/rosewood body and birdseye neck

It's alive! There's still some setup work to do, but it's up to pitch and playable. I really like these pickups - the stock Twangmaster sounds a little thin in one of my other Teles but these overwound ones are perfect.

    Hog/rosewood body and birdseye neck

I don't understand the question either. This was an off-the-shelf body and neck so I just went with the specs that were already there, but I see no reason to go for a Strat heel when assembling a Tele either. The good news: I drilled the hole for the pickup leads, it went fine, and I even...

    Hog/rosewood body and birdseye neck

Yup, I've seen it done and I'm sure I can do it; it just means another trip to the hardware store tomorrow for an extra-long bit.

    Hog/rosewood body and birdseye neck

Yup, the ground wire is fine - there's no hole for the pickup leads to get to the pots.

    Hog/rosewood body and birdseye neck

Some things I can live with; the overspray on the pickup routs can be sanded away to let the pickups actually fit in there. But not having any connection between the bridge pickup rout and the control cavity is going to be a problem. 😲

    Hog/rosewood body and birdseye neck

I'm going with a pair of Fralin Twangmasters, 2% overwound in both positions.

UPS dropped off some goodies yesterday, and the last parts are on their way from Fralin as well. It's going to be a fun weekend of sticking myself with the Dremel and soldering iron!

If Fender made a tribute to pre-Fender acoustics

It's alive! I've done zero setup work so it still plays roughly, but the sound is superb. It's a real twang mobile, but nowhere near as thin as a Telecaster. I was honestly a little skeptical that humbuckers could capture the sound of the original staple pickups, but while these aren't 100%...

If Fender made a tribute to pre-Fender acoustics

At least that was my thinking: a modern electric inspired by vintage acoustics. Chambered mahogany body with a spruce cap and tortoise binding, two "staple" humbucking soapbars from Mojo Pickups, nickel hardware and a clear gloss finish. Fender American Pro neck with Schaller F-style tuners...

I recorded an album with my VIP 12-string

They're staples, so quite a bit more top end than your average P90.

I recorded an album with my VIP 12-string

I recently assembled a 12-string with a hollow VIP body, as seen here. That got me thinking about whether I could do an entire album with nothing but a 12-string. The answer was actually no, I'd need two 12-strings - one acoustic and one electric. So the resulting album has this Warmoth build, a...

Warmoth bass body + carbon fiber neck

I try something new with each of my builds; this time, it was a neck from Status Graphite. It's shaped like a conventional J-bass neck, just made of carbon fiber. The neck has a conventional truss rod, but while it needs a little initial adjustment to taste, it won't need any regular setup work...

It's going to be a jangly one

I fixed most of the teething problems today: ran a bridge ground (don't ask how I managed to forget that yesterday), shimmed the neck, and replaced the tone control with a 3-way rotary bass roll-off switch. The guitar has a much larger range of usable sounds now. A treble boost just would have...

It's going to be a jangly one

It's alive! Or 90% there. Looks like I'll have to shim the neck and do a little work on the nut for a proper setup, but at least it's making pretty noises. Turns out that ABM bridge needs conversion posts, but I've installed this other bridge until they arrive. I've used these pickups in other...
