Hmm sounds interesting... I have quite recently played a pbass and a jazz pickup (non humbucking) of his, and it sounded great - you'll probably be happy.

Ahh Just looked - I knew they did tele basses but I didn't know they did thinline with the f-hole and pickguard the tele deluxe pick guard. Very cool

By far the best delay out there (IMO) is the Diamond Memory Lane. And a couple months ago they made the Memory Lane 2, which I haven't played but I hear is even better then the first. ....600$ but if you are serious about your delay, it is worth every penny...

It's sad because I had to look through so many photos to get that one. The rest were...well, they were just awful.

Will the vintage ones give that good ol' hump in the upper fretboard like many of the 40 year old basses I have played have?

There are some Duncan pups I have played and really disliked, or at least would recommend something over it. This isn't the case with MM pickups - I freaking LOVE the sound from mine. When you to play a musicman again, remember that it is probably active, which changes the sound quite a bit...

I highly recommend the MM pickup. My W has an old style P bass and a MM pickup in it, and ever since playing it I have thought it would make an amazing sounding fretless. I have also played a MM fretless bass before, and it still haunts me. It sat in the store for a year and I would go play it...

I agree to possibly hold off on the Warmoth. I'd say after get your rig go out and rent for a day (or borrow) a jazz bass, a p bass, a MM bass, a p/j, something with soapbars, a t-bird, a rick...what ever you can get your hands on, play the crap out of it for a day and learn what you like. This...

Good list. But how about the ol' "How much does fretboard wood/body wood/neck wood/bridge/pickups/strings/libido affect your sound?" IIRC, the order is libido/strings/pickups/neck wood/body wood/bridge/nut/fretboard wood" or something close to that.

I agree that they look "off", but not in a bad way. In an eye-catching way, and I really like them!

Cool idea. I don't think Warmoth is the way to go here. They could do the body for you, I am sure with the cutaways the way you want them. But I'm pretty sure they can't do the 32" scale neck, and I know (because I recently called to ask about it) they can't do a different radius on the neck...

I have never thought about the tone difference this would make until you just mentioned it. However, I have never played with the same setup that Hendrix played but with the regular pup position, so that doesn't help too much.
