    Tone control

Do you use an audio taper (log) pot or a linear pot for your tone control? I understand it is done both ways, but what is your prefereence and why? Thanks

    staining wenge

just esthetics. the guitar body will be some shade of red with an ebony fretboard and black tuners, nut, bridge, knobs etc. i was looking for a good wood that would seem to go along with that color scheme, but i decided i wanted a wenge neck for its qualities. the natural color of wenge doesn't...

    staining wenge

i really want a solid black neck, that's the only reason. do you think water based stain would gum up?

    staining wenge

would there be any problem staining a wenge neck black? i assume that if you can there would be no need for a finish. is this right?

    warmoth practice

one of the nice things about a warmoth build is that you can do as much or as little as you want. i'm more interested in finishing and customizing the peghead for a really unique guitar - i didn't say good looking, just unique. but if that's not what trips your trigger you can get that done by...

    warmoth practice

i picked up a complete guitar kit for about $150 from a local guitar shop. it has all the hardware and a pre-wired pickguard with the usual 3 pup setup. for the price you know the pups are crap and the rest of the hardware isn't much better. the main reason i got this over a used cheapo is that...

    on-site selection

i guess this is mainly for gregg but someone else might know. can a customer visit the company in wa and select their body, neck, fretboard, etc.?

    custom peghead

sorry to be late responding. the internet went down yesterday afternoon - probably some of the satellite pieces got into cyberspace. i read the info on the p30 and it sure sounds like it's just wood, so i stand corrected. it still seems hard to imagine that small amount of headstock can handle...

    custom peghead

i think the only way they can go so slim is that it's a graphite neck. i doubt wood could hold up that small.

    custom peghead

i'm messing around with some peghead designs and got to thinking that there must be a limit on the amount of wood you can take off. is there a rule of thumb on this? i'm sure there are some variables like the variety and cut of the wood, angle of the peghead, etc. but in general, what do you think?

    Finish first or build first

That makes sense to me. Thanks for your help.

    Finish first or build first

Thanks. I guess I was a too brief in my question. The idea of building it first (drilling etc) also meant disassemby before finishing. I think the main idea behind it is to make sure everything fits and is in alignment before finishing so you don't mess up the finish later. It also means a lot...

Would you mind expanding on that.
