I did this wiring with my single coil guitar and like it. Gets you a bunch of different parallel and series combos with only 1 switch.

I did this one with 3 single coils (did not add phase switch):

Whats nice about it is that it gives you a bunch of parallel or series combos. We're used to parallel combos, but putting them in series adds a bit of punch to them. Virtual...
A few weeks ago it started sounding crackly almost like a speaker was blown. I have also noticed that it doesn't seem to get as loud as it used to either (could be going deaf but I don't think so yet). I have never replaced the tubes and it is over 10 years old. Talking to a few people, they...
Ok. I am diving into this amp repair thing...
Anyone have either one of these books I found on stewmac?
How To Service Your Own Tube Amp
The Tube Amp Book
If so, does it show you how to change out tubes and bias an amp?
Is there a better book out there?
Funny, I had the exact same thing happen to me. Bought a t-shirt and some stickers or something :)

Hot rails is a great pickup. I have it in the bridge position on one of my guitars and it has a nice growl to it. It would probably be great in the neck position for metal but I'm not sure how it would clean up. From what you listed as music styles, you might not want to clean up that much...
What about a cool rails in the neck? It is good for the harder stuff but still cleans up nice. You could split it with the middle PU in the 4 position to give you more quack.
How often do you play clean? If the answer is a lot, splitting the HB's makes more sense.
I am a fan of this setup:

It gives you a couple of hum-free split options without a push-pull or extra switches. Pretty clean setup imo.
