I've had good luck doing something similar. Vinyl or foil decals really work well on unfinished necks of course, too. I don't own a Cricut but some nice person on reddit offered to cut a few of my design and mail them to me, they worked great: I also have bought a foil decal from this site...

I guess I'm not really looking for higher contrast. Black and white are both visible enough for me, I'm just looking for something that maybe "looks nicer". The black dots on the dark roasted maple neck just look a little bland to me, whereas white is too much contrast.
