Check out Kahler's Floyd replacement nut with the string guide built in. I really hate retainer bars, and and the Kahler is an awesome solution.

Been a while since I looked at that bridge. I seem to recall Schaller had a PDF of the installation process, with scale drawings of the routing/drilling templates you would need.

At a 2.125" string spread at the bridge, the height difference between a 12" and a 16" radius (measured on the outside strings) is only 0.012". You should be able to do that with a diamond file if you detect any problems.
The attached pic is what I've done for years. I recently learned that Billy Sheehan does something similar, but more heavy duty. I'm thinking about going to his method.
Guitar Fetish has some thin metal rings. Probably chrome, rather than nickel.
