VOTE HERE! October 2020 Guitar of the Month Contest

Wow, thank you all for the votes! I must say I did not expect a win given the competition. They are all examples of excellent work and great ideas. I hope to see them resubmitted in the future. I'll be sure to get some better pictures up soon - especially of the headstock veneer, which was...

    Black Korina VIP

My stuff arrived! Little story on the top wood, for anyone who noticed my posts in the black korina thread. I had originally included a photo of the top that was similar to the one I'd ordered, since I forgot to keep one. Then, I replaced it with a picture of my actual top on order when Warmoth...

    First Bass Build

Roasted woods might just be my new favorite. Yours looks great with that semigloss finish.

Why doesn't Warmoth make a roasted Mahogany body or neck?

I thought the point to roasting was to make a wood more stable and somewhat lighter, and had little to do with appearance (as nice as some may be)?

    alternative to pickguard screws

I'm not saying this is the case for WD Music, but I know some businesses in my area were deemed essential for economic reasons. If you aren't open to the public and your employees can work safely, why not?

I just used some graphics programs I have. Transparent masks, cut and paste, etc. The grey background is the default grey from the Warmoth tools for build your own or examining a unique choice top.

Thanks for the replies. I know it'll darken some (I'm going to go with a light tung oil finish and a TruOil top coat, in all likelihood), I'll have to see by how much. I'm not normally a fan of reverse headstocks but wanted one on this guitar to increase the tension on the lower strings than on...

I'm really undecided on the zebra/creme. What do you think? My original thought (as it is in many guitars) was all black, but I saw a really nice black Les Paul with creme rings on zebras and ... well. That's what I'm planning. Am I nuts?

I've got an order in at Warmoth but need to wait until they can get back to work, so I've been mocking up the next project. It's a VIP body, black korina with a unique choice black korina lam top and black binding. The neck is quarter sawn maple, with a black ebony fretboard, reverse...

    alternative to pickguard screws

Magnets and pins (for accurate placement) seem to me to be the way to go for mechanical, but maybe consider Ben Crow's "superglue trick" - a strip of masking tape in several places on the body, a matching strip in each location on the pick guard, and superglue between. Holds really well, but...

    Short scale P

Another bass I recently finished, this is my short scale P bass with PJ pickups. The body is roasted swamp ash which I finished with only a couple light coats of tung oil, which was then gone over with a 000-steel-wool-equivalent Scotchbrite pad to just bring out a bit of sheen. The neck is a...

    Short scale Z

Here's a Z I completed a while back. Both the body and neck were showcase items; it's a satin black alder short scale Z body with a wenge/wenge short scale Warmoth neck. I ordered it with dual MM pickup routs, a Schaler 463 bridge, SS6100 frets, a standard corian nut and Gotoh GB707 tuners...

Korina, Korina, Where You Been So Long? Korinacaster Collection

I ordered a carved-top VIP with a BK laminate. I was dumb and didn't save a picture of it (I've asked Warmoth if they can dig one up for me) but it's very similar to the attached. It'll be on a Black Korina body, with a quarter sawn maple neck / black ebony fretboard (RH reverse Warhead). Now...

    The Dreamsite build

And lastly, here it is after the paint and appliqué were distressed, and two coats of polyurethane were applied too quickly, so that the paint underneath would crack. (Also, it's obviously been assembled and wired up). I didn't get the full "trashed" effect I was looking for, but it's enough...
