Zebra

Oh, man.  I built a guitar with that setup on a mahogany back.  Such a beautiful and underappreciated slab of wood, jackie.

Gorgeous!

Congratulations! That's a beautiful body!

Sooo... you gonna put a neck on it or anything?

Neck?  yeh probably, was waiting to see the body in person to help choose a neck,

Theres a couple Canary necks with some nice semi stripes that look like they may go well with this body,  I want something other than plain white maple or rosewood.

I shoulda asked the Warmoth guys to just pick a neck off the shelf that would go with that body, I bet they'd have picked something nice.

I should say Ebony over Pau Ferro; I don't care if it matches or not. All necks should be Ebony over Pau. Oughta be a law. But, it should look good, too, so... Ebony over Afra. Mmmm... yummy stuff. Not that Pau isn't attractive - it is - but I'm thinking you want the headstock to match the center of the burst and I don't think Pau will. You don't want the thing to look like it was built out of a pile of cats and dogs. But, the Afra is nice and dense, so it feels good and enjoys being naked. Gotta love that.

Thanks Cagey, I just checked out this so called afra, I found a few that really look nice,

Something about exactly like this, maybe

Forgot to add, that's Pau over Afra

I just learned of Afra a few days ago from someone posting a shot of their Afra Afra neck, looks nice

I like that neck.  How about one of the canary necks in the showcase?

Man I'm getting an itchy trigger finger, I may pull it on a neck tonight, just was looking at all necks filtered for goncalo alves, omg.

Now I'm tryin to figure out what frets to order Stainless of course, I've always like 6105 SS but was thinking of going bigger , taller maybe ss6100, which is the tallest W has,

Is that way too tall?

Egads! that's nice. It's a good thing you saw that before me. I'm glad you got it though. I love that very subtle smokey burst, it's perfect.

Are you going to put a Floyd on it? I hope you go vintage with it. I think the 6105s are the perfect size. Any taller and it starts to feel scalloped or like train tracks, IMO.

I can't wait to play it.. I mean until you play it.  :laughing7:

I got it with a wilkinson bridge route, and hum single single, 5 way switch and I'll drill the one volume hole myself, no tone controll, 1/2 side jack

If you don't mind putting Pau against that body, then get the whole neck, or at least the meaty part made of Pau rather than the fretboard. In fact, I'd be doing what I originally suggested and discarded - Ebony over Pau - if that's the case. Thing is, that body is gonna be a focal point, so you don't want any colors/grains to compete with it. That's why I suggested an Ebony 'board to start with. Can't go wrong with black. And the Canary or Afra will be a contrast at the headstock, rather than trying to match that finished Zebra.

I saw that on the showcase.  I was too slow to pull the trigger (again).  Congrats.  Great looking body!!!  :rock-on:

Well the body just showed up, and in usuall Warmoth fashion, the showcase pics don't do the real thing justice.

I'm stunned, I knew it would look good, but holy crap.

I'll post pics, and stats. when I get a day off.

Oh, and I don't mean to bash the photographer for Warmoth, what a shitty job that must be trying to get good photos of really nice guitars

Lucky me! I got to see this body today in person. Wow! the showcase pics do not do it justice. Too bad he had it top routed though...... JK :tard: This thing is smokin'. I think whoever it was that did that burst deserves an "atta boy" and cold brew. The burst is perfect. I have no idea how such a perfect mask binding is achieved. The Zebra wood in conjunction with the colors put on it is extremely classy.

It's a good thing there wasn't a lead pipe laying around. Just sayin.  :laughing7:

I googled up "afra wood" to see if anybody but Warmoth has even heard of it, and I got some really weird findings.
Here, you try:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdomastix
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Afra
http://www.afrawoodindustrial.com/ - that's the weirdest-looking Australian printing I've ever seen.

Are you sure this stuff isn't just moldy maple or something? :icon_scratch: Crane flies....
