Post up your top two bands with clips.  :icon_thumright:

Two bands that no matter what's new to check out, I can't help but going back to them.

Vanden Plas (basically a more "musical" Dream Theater with a better singer)

Vocals that RULE!!  :headbang1:

Kamelot (singer reminds me of Geoff Tate, singer for Queensryche)

Kamelot "One Cold Winter's Night" AWESOME live DVD, a must see.

More vocals that RULE!!  :headbang1:

For a little something cool, Vanden Plas' cover of "Kiss of Death". I think they covered it awesomely!!  :eek:ccasion14:

Above and beyond all else: King Crimson. There's basically nothing I don't love about them from '73 and on. Can't listen to too much KC though, as everything else seems pale and lifeless in comparison...

Utterly brutal solo:

They had the best use ever of the early guitar synths... and Tony Levin proves just how fantastic he can be at around 4 minutes:

Robert Fripp's soloing is out of this world. Only Shawn Lane does anything remotely similar to me.

I'm kind of spoiled by that. Other bands that I periodically enjoy are Radiohead, Wilco, uhm... it's mainly solo artists actually.

One band that keeps returning though is the Swedish ska band Eskalator: this is ska perfected if you ask me. Sad, uplifting, beautiful ska.

In Dec. of last year, I heard this band while in a guitar shop in Ochanomizu. The kid working at the store was kind enough to write down the name of the band and the album title, and even showed me the cover art on his iPod.

Last month, I flew to Tokyo from Hong Kong just to see them.

Easily one of the top 3 shows I've ever seen in terms of how tight the band was. Considering the other two were Metallica 1986 and Thin Lizzy (200?), I'd say they're in good company.

The other band? It's one thing to fly from Hong Kong to Japan to see a band. It's another to fly from Hong Kong to Nashville to work for one. They just happen to be that good:

God, narrowing it down to two bands is tough.  I don't really have an absolute favorite band/artist anymore.  At one time I would have said SRV.  At another, the Beatles.  Recently I've really gotten into art music.  I absolutely love Bach and the baroque era in general.

My recent foray with the country band has really given me a great appreciation for the genre and the menagerie of country pickers who make it seem easy.  One of my favorites:

They just never get old for me.

If you can just arbitrarily pick out 2 bands, you need to broaden your musical horizons....

What if I can only arbitrarily pick out 1 band?  Is that better or worse?  :help:

Nothing to add here, nor to hijack the thread, but the drummer in my my current band used to play/tour with Schenker (Scorpions) in the 70's just before they broke. How's that for pressure?
