Yes, it's THAT guitar again. :)

Brilliant!
that finish made me forget that I am not too crazy about pointy guitars.! :)

Wow, man came out great!
I love the look and style of it  :glasses9:

That neck is REALLY nice too.  :hello2:

Thanks, guys!

I'm having an issue with the LSR nut at the moment.
The D string slips out over a ball bearing when bent a lot
towards low E string. I think it's because the D string is being
pulled by the tuner to the side instead of a straight pull a la Fender.

Here's the lesson I learned:
LSR is for straight peghead with straight string pull only.

I am getting an Earvana compensated nut for LSR retrofit.

My LSR nut was shimmed up when installing, so I would probably
have to shim up the Earvana nut as well. I might get some thin
strips of brass from a local hobby shop to shim it up...
Will update you on this when ready.

A cheap spark plug gap tester from the auto parts store can get you precise thicknesses to shim the nut with.  My buddy that has a bunch of sevens with a locking nut does this with a pair of tin snips and a cheap file.  Works well for him.  The LSR is a fickle thing, but it only likes straight pulls on non tilted head stocks.  Adding a bar styled string retainer would sort of defeat the purpose of the ball bearing nut...

Although extra down pull from a string bar would help,
I don't want to put it there...  :sad1:
It's not the lack of down pull. It's the side pull from the
tuner location. The D string only rides slips over the ball
bearing towards the direction of the side pull.

I might be able to solve this if I put a small something just
behind the ball bearing to keep the string from slip out.

It might look slightly weird, but I'd put a couple of little barrel retainers for the middle four strings. That should solve your problem, which is a bigger one than just looks. As as far as the string trees negating the advantage of the nut, well it's got locking tuners and a hardtail so the roller nut isn't really necessary anyhow. Just put a bit of graphite under the barrels and you'll be fine.

Good luck with the earvana, I'd buy warmoth's corian version but not the company's version.

Thanks for the help, guys!  :occasion14:

I just solved the problem. There's a tiny interior space behind each ball bearing
just above the black rubber (either side of the string). I measured the space and
cut a small piece out of a thick black pick. Inserted the piece into the space (only on the side
where the string slips to), and it's keeping the string in place even with heavy bending.  :hello2:

I'd have to agree wit tfarny, no need for the roller nut with a hardtail. I'd say skip the earvana and just go with a Tusq graphite nut and a bar retainer. :icon_thumright:

Well even if you don't change the nut, I'd still recommend a bar retainer...Just for good measure... :icon_biggrin:

How d'you like the Hip Shot tuners ?

And...is the neck 'regular' flame maple ?

Great build  :icon_thumright:

Thanks again for the compliments and helpful info, guys! This guitar would not even exist
if i had joined the forum. I also read through the "tips and tricks" posts and learned a lot
about putting together a guitar. So thank you all!

So far, I like them better than other 18:1 tuners I've been using: Grovers, and Sperzel.
It turns butter smooth and steady allowing precise tuning. I also like the size. These
are smaller than the Grovers 3X3 tuners... less crowded in the back of the headstock.
Plus, the buttons are cool!!!

Yes, it's the normal flame maple neck. As Tonar said, the flame is more intense in person.

Thanks for the info ! Reason I asked is because I just ordered a 'regular' flame maple neck and just wanted to check how much flame I can expect :). Yours looks really intense as it is. Nice ! Funny enough, I'm also putting HipShots on mine  :icon_thumright:

May I inquire about the Asian characters on your head and neck plate? Are they Chinese? I'm reading them in Japanese and the meaning really isn't that nice. Hoping they're Chinese and have a better meaning.

There is a post from Tonar on the "I'm going to torch this thing!" thread that translates the meaning.
And yes, he does state that it is Chinese...
