Why is Warmoth listed as one of the violators? I thought they were licensed by Fender??? Good Lord. We've already lost the Les Paul, if the Strat disappears that will SUCK!!!

Sorry, I didn't look at the date. It just came across my feed in Facebook. Regardless, why is Warmoth listed there? I thought they were licensed by Fender? At least that's what is stamped on their products.

Reading that article, and the precedent it maintains makes me wonder doubly why W caved to Gibson. Especially now when someone in DOJ really has it out for Gibson.

But the case is pretty clear - two dimensional outlines do not indicate source

The judgement in this case was that those specific outlines do not indicate source. The reason for this is that Fender was totally slack in stopping people from creating Strat and Tele copies, to the point where practically every guitar maker was doing them, and indeed the Strat outline became the public perception of what an "electric guitar" looks like.

I think Gibson are gambling that their LP and SG outlines are a more reliable "indicator of source".
