It's INSANE out there!  There's a tornado warning for OC and South LA counties, and there's a hail warning and a huge lightning storm.  Crazy.  STAY SAFE, EVERYBODY!

Weather is getting crazy. I'm in Washington, yesterday it was 60deg... super warm for January. And we had a tornado touch down about 2-3 months ago, again... this is Washington.
After living in Kansas, the weather you described brings back some fond memories.
Stay safe!

I'm far from being a tree hugger, politically correct etc... etc... I'm not one to scream "GLOBAL WARMING" when I see someone using an aerosol can. Nope, I'm the type of person that Dennis Leary describes in his famous song "I'm an boom-boom". Yep, that's me. But I will say this, there have been so many weird weather things going on that it's ludicrous to believe for even one second that something isn't happening. The climate is in fact changing. I just pray I get to the end of my days before the proverbial sh!t hits the fan.

I live in Kansas, and thus far I have had no fond memories here.

Its kind of a boring area, but really cool people. I lived in Chapman from about 90-93. Still kinda miss it, was one of those places where you didn't have to lock your doors, everybody knew everybody.
Craziest weather I've ever encountered too! One minute its crazy hot, next minute its hailing.

The reason the Europeans are so gung-ho behind climate agreements is because they've seen some truly bizarre things, lately. There were floods in German and Czech cites that just don't get floods - that's why they've been there for 1000 years. The French lost a wine crop, for god's sakes. In America, we're really, really used to transcendent weather events, a lot of them due to building houses where people shouldn't really build houses. If you live inside the Mississippi floodplain, it's gonna flood, and if you build a house on top of an earthquake or inside of a California fire zone it's gonna burn, sooner or later. This basic stupidity about causation has left many Americans inured to the fact that the world's weather is going to hell in a handbucket.

So you probably are a huge fan of New Orleans?

Well to be fair, they've been saying the levees were going to fail for 80 years.  It wasn't the hurricane so much as the waves on the ocean after the hurricane messing up the levees.  And hurricanes are common down there anyways.  But tornados in CA?  That's just weird.

Man. For once I'm actually happy I'm in "nothing ever happens in" Tucson, Arizona. Sure 60% of the population is over 70 years old, at least don't have much to worry about from Mother Nature... except extreme heat, but that's an every day thing here. Good luck with your overgrown dust devils. :icon_thumright:

i live in the other orange county. ok i know there are many i live in new york and we get tornado warnings every year. i've never actually seen a tornado here. a warning just means a set of parameters resembles what they see before a tornado. it's not an exact science and it is not uncommon to see a warning in a place that never gets a tornado.

about climate change. 50+ years ago scientists predicted a temperature swing to be coming. they said to prepare for the next little ice age like the one that froze most of europe in the middle ages. some still say that there is still evidence of that. i don't know if i belive that but i certainly don't believe anything that comes from al gore. if there was more independent research publicized in this country and not all from one biased source i might be more willing to listen to it. that being said pollution is just disrespectful to your neighbors no one wants to live next to a dump and no one wants to smell your car coming as you drive down the road. i believe in maintaining your old cars so they don't polute. why have a car crushed and polute the land just to have a factory produce a new one over-sees poluting someone else's air and water?

i kinda went off on a tangent there. but yea the climate is going through a change will it return to normal? who knows. did we cause it? i doubt it. am i open to that posibility? maybe.

Well that and we're having some really strange solar activity (or lack of solar activity) recently that is causing record cold in a lot of places too.

Damn right it's insane out there!

I stepped into a 3 or 4 inch puddle of water and soaked my shoes, and then, trying to get through the water, slipped and soaked the left sleeve of my suede jacket!
Luckily, I was on my way home, so I just stripped down and hopped into the shower as soon as I got home, then got into some dry clothes.
It stopped raining shortly after that.

One of the cars got flooded a bit.
The Mercedes Benz roadside service guy came out and arranged to tow the car to their service center for free.
Hopefully they will take care of it though, so it won't be so bad.

I also had water pouring out of the light enclosure in one part of the house.

Fortunately, I don't give a shit about it because I'm out of here in two weeks. I found an absolutely amazing new house just down the street, with the same ocean view and just about every luxury you can have in a home. :icon_biggrin:
February 1st is moving day, so it damn well better not be raining that day! :tard:

Here is a picture I took on my way home at about 12:40pm
This wasn't the worst of it by any means (In some areas, the water was splashing up 6 feet!), but at least you can see the water going up over the sidewalk.

Alright, so this might sound crazy, buuuuuut.... I have a minor addiction to absolutely foul weather.  When we get storm warnings around here, which is not too uncommon, I'm the guy who goes out into the yard to watch the sky get really threatening.  Really thunderous lighting makes the hair stand up on my arms.  I get sooooo excited when the sh@t is really going down.  When hurricane Fran blew through here back in the 90's, I sat on my front porch for most of it.  I try not to be stupid about it, I never try to drive through, or wade through flood waters, and I have a healthy respect for lightning and tornadoes, but, damn I love that stuff.  My kids, of course think I'm crazy, and are always hiding somewhere safe (good for them).  I don't know, something about staring at something so utterly uncontrollable just gets me going.  OK, end insane bad weather rant.

Me too!  As a native New Englander, I love the big storms.

But.....I'm always sorry to hear about those who lose property or get hurt in a storm.  So enjoy, but be careful.

Also remember, its usually worse on TV than it actually is in real life.  Not to take away from anyone who has a real emergency on their hands, but you know how it is with these sensational news crews.

I actually really love heavy rain, but only when I'm indoors watching and listening. It's no fun at all when you have to go outside and get soaked. :

I love to listen to the rain/thunder and watch it out my window, but of course, it's always a bad thing here in California.

I bet the people in La Canada-Flintridge are really having a tough time with this.
First they had to evacuate their homes due to the wildfires, and then now, just a few months later, they are forced to evacuate again for the flooding.
That's terrible.

I've got a lot of respect for my mail man today though.
If ever there were a day to call in sick, it's today, but yet, my mail was here on time!

While that is true, I watched a video on the news of some people out in the middle of the street in canoes, with cars parked nearby that were flooded two thirds of the way up.
That certainly doesn't seem like they are exaggerating to me.
