I adore how they brought out the grain on this one.
Is this some highly custom technique that a novice couldn't fathom doing?

The wood is fried, with a brown edge burst.

The wood itself is fried?
That sounds like it's beyond my meager skills.

No, it's really not. All you need is a propane torch and the great outdoors.( As Cagey pointed out in another thread, don't do this indoors or it will set off your smoke alarms. You DO have smoke alarms, right?)

Torch the wood and sand the body. That's about it. Well, then spray the brown edge and clearcoat. BUt the part that makes you go "ooh" is just burnt, then sanded wood. We did the same thing in Jr. High wood shop.

It's really just slightly burned, but fried sounds delicious while burned sounds ruined. You can do it easily. Emeril Lagasse and guys like him do it to their Crème brûlée all the time.

There are instructions at the link. Note: don't use sugar on your guitar. It'll attract ants <grin>

Mmmm Creme Brulee

Thanks for all this advice, people. I really hope I don't have to wait too long to start the next guitar.
