Not exactly and depending of the intention of the look of the guitar, beside I like some very flashy guitars, I like too with that raw and mean look of the first pic

Wow, i guess i am really stealing the OP's thread, but why not continue.

The raw wood had a really "hazy" look to it. I am not so sure i really liked it that much.
The epoxy just gives it this 3D grain look.
