Martin makes an acoustic worth 109,000 - and another one worth 50,000

:icon_scratch:
Yeah, but they've got platinum in their fingerboards and all that kind of fancy business.

Yeah I think most of that cash goes to the outrageous inlay work, but some of it has to go towards the "fossilized ivory" they use for the nut and bridge saddles...

I've seen some of the PRS original Dragons for sale between $50,000 and $70,000....C'mon people it's just wood.....

Works of art, yes.(PRS Dragons, high class Martins etc.)

But from what I've seen of EVH's guitars, his most famous ones are parts guitars or heavily modded Strats, often the work being done by himself or a techo. In that case, no.

Why would you buy a piece of shit like that when serious Mojo costs less???

I'll admit the PRS Dragons are pretty swanky, but not even if I could afford 50 G's to spend on a guitar would I buy one. And the EVH Fender replica, no way would I even tender the idea of dropping 21 g's on that. Hell the ones that Eddie hand painted and used in the shows at the begining of the tour are cheaper than that. Now I'd buy one of those. Not only were those hand painted by Ed, but they were built by Charvel. I'd take a Charvel repro over a fender repro anyday.....

If that's authentic, then that's the Mojo right thar...... :laughing7:

I don't know if I'd buy a $50,000.00 guitar but as an aspiring luthier I sure would like to sell one

Pretty sure that if I had 21,000 to blow on a guitar, I would build about 15 REALY nice Warmoths.  That's just me though, I'm not sure how anyone else around here feels about Warmoths.   :icon_thumright:

It's "worth" whatever you can hoodwink someone into paying. They might have $10,000 worth of ivory, platinum and gold & wood in that, maybe another $10,00 or $15,000 of a well-paid inlayer's time... after that it's all the Martin name, and selling things to people who want to prove they don't care about money. Or an investor who hopes to re-sell it to people who want to prove they don't care about money. A Ferrari will carry you to the store to buy a can of catfood... is fossilized mammoth ivory a "tonewood"?

Seems like all that crap on the back would catch on yer belt-buckle... :hello2:

There's folks out there that have the discretionary $$$ to invest in anything they feel will hold or increase in value. Art, property, cars, etc. Why not guitars??? In this economy - who knows what's wise or safe to do with one's money? That said (and to paraphrase)......"There's a sucker born every minute!"   :laughing7:

Is that not the truth. :icon_biggrin:

Yes!!  On the right guitar I would.  Unfortunately guitars have become much more than utilitarian and have crossed over into the world of some of the best investments out there.  The market is soft right now so deals are there to be had.

Would I buy it for an investment?  No!!!!!  I’d play it and watch it grow in value. I sure do wish I bought a 59 Les Paul when they were $3000.00 dollars, which was almost half of my first year’s salary of $7500.00 in 1977.
