Bad...REALLY BAD, but...not the worst.  The WORST goes to this little number right here.  If you can't rock, just...don't.  And as if the "air guitar" act wasn't bad enough, she even desecrated Angus by TRYING to skip across the stage like him, too...  :help:

OMG the dude at 2:00 in the Dion video has to be the biggest tool on earth.

Are you sure that's a dude?  I think it's a chick, man.  Then again, it don't matter, cuz anyone willing to participate in that atrocity is a tool.

Oh, sweet lord ... I couldn't even make it past the first line of the song. I am forever ruined. This is proof there is no god! No loving god would ever allow this to happen! Where is the cringing smiley face??

I honestly could not sit through Celine's entire version of "You Shook Me All Night Long."  The only thing I wanted to "shake all night long" was her, by her neck.  The cover was bad enough, but the whole "Hey, Girlfriend!" and the "air guitar" sank that song to an entirely different level.

The saddest part of that whole thing was that she actually thought she rocked.  :tard:

In the end, the only thing I can say is that I am pretty much offended for life, and I never want to hear it again...EVER.

So, all that being said, I'm going to bless all of you with yet ANOTHER desecration of one of the (IMO) greatest songs ever written.  Brace yourselves, because this one gets bad...REALLY bad... :sad1:

Yes, that one really had me cringing, and I'm repeating myself here, but I'm gonna say it again, anyway..."If you can't rock, just...DON'T."  :sad1:

The Celine cover was indeed a travesty, but I've listened to the Home Sweet Home video twice now and didn't think Miss Underwood did a bad job singing it.  Are you talking about the rockin' body movements?  If so, I agree it's cheesy, but live music is all about putting on a show.  99% of the people in that audience thought she rocked that song and had a good time doing it.

Have you ever gone to see a band that was killer musically but just stood there and did nothing?  They hit every note exactly right and never made a single mistake, but didn't do anything exciting at all.  Did they have a good crowd?  Did you go back to see them again?

When I've got a killer rhythm section that I know is going to nail every downbeat at the exact right moment, just standing there with my eyes closed and playing in sync with them is a borderline religious experience.  However, if I just stand there in the shadows with my eyes closed the whole night the people in the crowd will either think I'm bored or mad or not having any fun.  The general population doesn't know what we musicians know and they don't care how we feel.  They paid the cover change to get in and damn it, the demand to be entertained!  I used to get all sorts of feedback from my friends about how I didn't look like I was having fun.  Now I jump around on stage, poke fun at the bandleader behind his back and say risque things into the microphone in between songs. It's all for show and doesn't represent who I am or how I feel in the slightest, but it's what people remember and it makes them come out to see you again.

And just to be clear, I do NOT like Carrie Underwood's music.

IMO, nothing about Ms. Underwood's version was exciting at all.  The "rhythm section," to politely put it, couldn't even manage to pull off an otherwise very easy Pentatonic guitar solo, which could have been mastered by any novice player.

While I can understand putting your own spin on a remake, at least try to stick to the important parts.  I guess I'm just a purist.

FWIW, I found another "butcherization" of AC/DC.  Death Metal band, Six Feet Under, happened to redo the ENTIRE "Back In Black" record.  Here's an excerpt from that one.  The first time I heard it, I honestly thought it was a joke...

Now that is a horrifying cover... I'd prefer the Celine Dion cover any day over that horrifying piece of filth.

We certainly have different opinions!  I'll listen to Cookie Monster over Celine Dion any day.  At least Cookie Monster's band had some punch behind the music...  :evil4:

I like Six Feet but never really liked their covers. I think they do another AC/DC also, equally badly

Yeah, the first time I heard that record, I thought the music was pretty tight, and I could only think to myself, "I know they really aren't gonna sing with Death Metal vocals," and sure enough...they did.  :sad1:

I agree with you Bagman. I never liked Eddie that much to begin  with, though. Hell of a player, but not my thing. Once in West Virginia, this local band was covering Dave Matthews Band, but it was so bad you wouldn't even recognize it was one of his songs.

I'll just put this here

Not that it was so raw, but that Sheryl Crow stuff reminds me of being a kid in a garage band. Just because you happen to like a tune doesn't mean you should cover it. You have to be able to do it justice. I used to be able to do a number of Zep tunes dead-nuts, so everybody always wanted to include them in a set, but I'd always say no. Who in the hell is supposed to sing them? Did Robert Plant just show up out of the clear blue? Because without him, fuhgeddaboudit. His vocals were a unique instrument in and of themselves. Try pulling most of Zep's stuff off in front of people and all they're going to be is disappointed. It's not dance music, it's arena rock. You gotta be good enough to just be watched and listened to.
