Wooden Pickguards

Wooden pickguards would be awesome. Finished/Unfinished, in all the standard and exotic woods. 

It would be good to get them from warmoth so they could be routed at the factory to have the control, pickup, bridge and mounting hole options...

I heard somebody say that wooden pickguards are actually plastic with a wood veneer on the top and sides, because solid wood is too delicate and cracks easily.

They're available, do a search on google. I found loads of them, and all the one I found were solid wood. Some hard woods can be as hard as plastic if not harder...

I have seen both full wood and plastic veneer pguards on the net. The problem is they offer them as trad strat guards with SSS and a trem.

Depending on the build I may or may not wants SSS and a trem and controls....

I figure most people that are savvy enough to know they want a wood pguard are savvy enough to not want trad options.


As for the quality of the plastic/wooden veneers, If I take the plunge I'll post a review on the forum

used to be a guy calling himself PickGuarden doing all sorts of exoitc PG's.

His were THICKer than normal.  I think about 1/8 inch, where the normal ones are about 1/12 inch thick... so 50 percent or so thicker than stock.

But they looked REALLY nice.

Reminds me of those uber-expensive "The Les Paul" guitars that Gibson made in the seventies. They only made like a couple hundred or so, but they spared no expense in the cost of materials or craftsmanship. I remember specifically that not only did those have a floating wooden pickguard, they also had lathed wooden knobs.

The Paul came out in '79? Let me check the firebrand I think along with the Marauder (LP Singlecoils)

yep,spot on! but no wooden PG. I think there was another body shape in "The Firebrand Series" When the highest priced Les Pauls were only $1200!
"The Paul" was a cheapo LP, and never came w/ a PG
