For those with a stockpile of wood scraps, how do you sort & store them (if at all)?  Sterilite boxes labeled by species?  A big ol' tote and they just get tossed in?  A potential burn pile in the corner of the garage or basement?

I save all cut offs, no matter how small. You never know when your going to need a shim or patch for something. When you really get down to it, how many different types of wood are you talking? Labeled Containers for each type saves a lot of searching. Most of the time the pieces aren't that big. And, the big pieces can be stored like any other wood. But, in the long run it depends on how much room you have for storage. Racks of bins like nuts and bolts are often stored in can be handy.

Cool.  Not much variety right now.  Just got some scraps of maple that came from a different project (not guitar related).

The thought occurred to me as I was sweeping the floor of the workroom, though. I used one of those scrap chunks to try out some staining before I moved to my real project piece, and that's when I was struck with wondering how to best save and store those bits.
