Wood plug in jack cavity - what is it?

Just got my Strat body from Warmoth, and in the output jack cavity, there is a wooden plug in the bridge end of the cavity. (See photo.) The hole in the middle of the plug doesn't lead anywhere, it's only about 1/2" deep. Anyone know what this is? It would seem like overkill, but my only guess is you drill through it if you want to run a ground wire from the trem claw to the output jack.

It’s for the amp plug, so you don’t have any worries of it hitting the wall of the cavity if you don’t mount the cup perfectly

If it's only to make room for the jack, why wouldnt' they just rout out a bit of the side of the cavity?

Then there would not be sufficient structure for the screw that mounts the jack plate.

It is not for drilling through but what you see is left over from the tooling. Probably done with a spade bit or similar.
