I have used both with success.  You have to ask yourself what is more important the look or set up flexibility.  The modern design will give you a better setup.  That being said I did not have an issue with the vintage design.

On a side note if you do a lot of Palm muting the newer design feels better on the hand.

If you have the body already does it have three or four mounting holes for the bridge ?

Which mounting method will also influence the available choices of bridge that will fit.

I've had very good luck with the Joe Bardon bridge.  It's a three saddle design, but with the holes in the brass saddles angled to achieve good tuning compensation.  And they have 'that' sound.  If that bridge is too expensive, you can get the compensated saddles from a variety of sources for not a lot of cash.

Gotoh makes a similar one, but with special cuts instead of angling the saddles to achieve compensation.  I have one but have not used it yet.

I know the older kind looks the best but I have heard that you can not set it up no matter how hard you try.But I have been known to do what other people can not or would not do at all.I guess I could put both in a hat and pull one out to be use but not going to do that either lol. It's not going to be easy to pick witch one I want.  :confused4:
Thanks to all that put a little input to this.

I have a Warmoth telecaster where I started out with a modern six-saddel Gotoh bridge. It was very dull and lifeless sounding. After that I tried an ABM custom shop bridge - also six saddel - and that too was dull and lifeless.

Then one of my friends told - then try a vintage bridge - and I cringed at the mere thought. But I tried it anyhow and there was a world of difference.

I ended up putting a one of the these Wilkinson vintage bridges with compensated saddels and now it sounds just like a Telecaster. YMMV.

I also have a Wilkinson type 3 saddle bridge (though I swapped the saddles for equivalent compensated Graphtech versions) and it works very well. Obviously you can't adjust the amount of compensation on each string pair but it plays in tune enough for my ears all the way up the neck.

Well I did it I order the standard  telecaster bridge it was cheaper too lol.Not by much but I also think it's the only way I can get what I want it to look like. Many thanks for the help on this.I will not start the build until I get all the parts then I can have something to do all the time until it is finish.I am almost done with my 4x12 cabinet I built here if all goes well mabe this coming weekend it will be done.
