Ok, I have tried to hook up a lil59 Seymour Duncan in the bridge of my strat. I hooked the red and white together then taped off, green wire to switch and black and bare to volume pot for grnd, position #1 was dead, but pos #2 was definately the bridge split with the mid, Then I tried switching the black and green wires and still the same thing! am I missing something or is this pickup bad?

Paul.

Originally It was 3 singles, and they were working fine until I hooked up the SD 59. I found the wiring diagrams on the Seymour Duncan site, should I try the 5-way switch auto split with the red and white going to the switch, with the green and ground to volume pot (grnd) and the black to switch?

If the red and white are twisted together and taped up, and you're getting sound (even if it's not the one you want), then both coils are working fine. You get a tapped sound by connecting the red & white into the circuit through an appropriate switching arrangement. Assuming that green is earthed and black is on the correct switch terminal, I'd be wanting to look at the rest of the wiring round the switch and just confirming that you don't have a stray strand of wire touching somewhere you don't want it.

The terminal the black wire is hooked to is a little loose! I didn't notice this before, Maybe I'll try it on the middle pickup post and see if that helps.

I'll get a shot of it tonight, I'm assuming you mean the wiring :) Thanks for the help man ! I'll let you know how I make out with it tonight, It's a pain in the ass taking this guitar apart! with the overhang on the neck It's a big job getting the pickguard out without damaging anything.

I tried it again last night, but in my frustration forgot to take a picture  I checked all connections and reversed the green and black wires again and then back again, still nothing in pos #1, should I have changed my switch or will the normal 5-way work? Something is fucked up !! I'm going to reinstall the single coil again tonight and see if it works, If it does then I got ripped from ebay on a used pickup!

The problem was the switch, I swapped the mid and bridge pickup wires and the HB worked fine. Thanks for the help!
