Wiring help for HH 5way switch Strat

I'll take some photos tonight.

This is the diagram that I'm using...

Last night I decided to completely de-wire and rewire with a much simpler circuit. Unfortunately, I'm getting the exact same hum/buzz as before. I'm beginning to wonder if one of the tone pots is defective.  :dontknow:

I ordered a couple more and will switch out the tone pots one at a time to see if that makes any diff. Hopefully, that will do the trick.

You could try bypassing the pots altogether for test purposes. Hopefully you've only fried a pot or capacitor.

If you bypass from the pickup direct to the output Jack with the pickup in series or parallel you should be able to rule out a possible problem with a pickup.

If you've got any little alligator are useful as you can then run tests without committing to soldering and unsoldering all the time.

I meant to say alligator clips. Been a long day.  :)

That's OK, I'll just release the ones I caught back into the swamp and go buy some clips.  :toothy10:

Be aware that even with humbuckers or any other type of "noiseless" pickups that if the wires you run to the output jack aren't shielded, you're going to get a surprising amount of hum. With single coils, fuhgeddaboudit. They're always noisy.

Alligator clips are very handy for testing wiring schemes and control functionality, but not so much for finding noise problems as they generally pick up quite a bit of noise themselves.

After rewiring twice to no avail and switching out pots and caps, I managed to isolate the issue to the super switch. After I changed the switch for a new one, everything seems to be reasonably grounded and wired properly. I must have been shorting something somewhere I just couldn't see. Even now that I have the switch out of the guitar and can examine it, I still don't see where it's shorting or maybe something is loose? Heck if I know.

I'll be stringing it up tonight and starting to do a setup. I'll most likely take it to a local place for some fretwork and a pro setup, but for now, I just want to play it a little bit!  :party07:

Thanks for all your help, guys!  :occasion14:
