Hi All,

Never used tru oil, but will it leave a yellowish tint? I have a maple/maple quartersawn neck and like the look of natural maple.

Below is a scrap piece of mahogany that I finished in tru oil beside one with no finish.  You can see the tru oil will make it darker, but it really brings out the grain.

It is a glossy finish, but you could use a scotch brite pad to make it matte.

On maple, I wouldn't say it makes it yellowish, I would say more amber.  The back of the neck is going to tend to polish up from your thumb just by playing.  This thread http://www.tdpri.com/forum/2011-tdpri-tele-build-challenge/264149-travsts-2011-tdpri-tele-build-challenge-thread-2.html over on tdpri has some good before and after tru oil pics.

Tru Oil is a great finish for bringing out the grain, and providing either a deep gloss finish or a matte (the latter requiring only a simple rub down with 000 synthetic steel wool or 1500 using mineral spirits as a lube for both).  That said, its downside is its susceptibility to wipe lines, and generally less durable hardness than a poly.  But if it's a matte you want, TO would be great, and it's great to work with.
