Why relic?

yeah, some of the cars posted have Faux Rust.

some have had parts dipped in acid. then glazed.

I'm willing to drive rusty cars. and put up with fake rust. but taking the hood of a 2009 tuner car. and turning it into garbage...

that don't sit right with me.

Call me crazy (a lot of you already do!) but I kinda like this one

Why people don't let it age and get "character" and marks from experiences rather than just marks from sand paper...

On my guitars I know the story of everyone of the dings and and scratches and I like it that way. They're people with scars too! =D

I love guitars that got beat up or worn naturally, from BEING PLAYED and taken on tours and such. I just think it's ridiculous to make a brand new guitar look that way before it ever leaves the factory. There's a "fakeness" about it that just turns me off. And as I stated previously,  I also love the way a new guitar looks when it's all shiny and flawless...

I sold 2 fenders about 6 or 7 years ago, pre CBS I had bought in pawn shops during the 70s. Did not pay that much for either. They spent their lives Jamming all over till we hours of the morning being abused by a guy who usually had a few to many and chipped them here or there, dropped them and wore the things so hard the neck joints were wallowed and had tooth picks pounded in to reset the neck, the electronics were shot and could not hold a tone, pots scratched when turned, 1 had the strap peg in the back because the hole screw wallowed in the horn. Kid who bought them was so stoked he was buying 2 Pre CBS Strats I think he had to change his pants when he got home. I took his money and bought a new American Strat and a PRS custom 22.(well I had to add a few dollars) I was stoked at getting rid of 2 worn out guitars that needed to be junked for 3 grand. He thought the guitars were way cool.
So it works for me. I get to play guitars for 25 years and sell them for a profit.
Moral of the story, do not put the trend down. Sell high and buy new and better stuff.

I've seen alot of people on this forum relicing their guitars and I see fender selling "relic'd" guitars for 2000 bucks and I always asked myself why?? Why don't you just let it live it's life and become an actual relic?  :dontknow:

"It's a mystery to me ..." this is what I thought. :icon_scratch:
Then, one day, I play one and.... Since then I have one fixed idea in my mind: I want a relic guitar  :toothy11:
Why? I do not know....
The relic start that I play was light, soft, comfortable. A dream guitar
But their price is really too hight, so the dreams are just dreams... :icon_thumright:

:dontknow: i think i've seen one. there might have been others, but the one i can remember was a telecaster bass, and it was done really really well

anyway, in my experience it seems that the people who like relics like them and thats it. the people who dislike them want to talk about it for weeks. not here on this forum, but this comes up once a week or more on TDPRI and the same discussion is had every single time. if you don't like them don't buy them! or build them.
