get a 24-fret neck with binding on the headstock and neck, but I can get one on a 22-fret neck?

I was thinking about swapping a neck on my W, and I'd like to get with a few more frets, and a little fancier...

Hey Torment Leaves Scars,

I didn't even know W. does a binding on the headstock.
Yeah, it'd be looking sooooooo fabolous.

Yep, Julia.  I wish I would have gotten it on my current neck...

Hey Dan,

they really bind the headstock?  I know they bind the left and right side of the neck (I ordered it on mine).... bling bling

And headstock as well, even more bling blingish :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

I'm not sure if W also does the headstock.  I'll check their site.

I don't think they do, on top they only bind the sides, if you choose the nickel/silver frets.
Binding is absolutely not available with any other fret..... :( :( :(

I went with the SS frets.  I've heard they last longer.  Not sure if there's any truth to that, as I believe all my guitars have SS frets.

Check your PMs.  :glasses10:

Yep, I've heard and read the same about the SS frets.
But sadly the ss frets excludes the possibility to get binding on the neck.....

I dunno, lots of things leave me scratching my head when it comes to the neck options, but they're minor "inconveniences."  :icon_scratch:

I have not seen any bound headstocks, so I'm 99% sure they do not offer that as an option.

SS frets can't have their tangs nipped the way nickel-steel frets can and you need to be able to do that to clear the binding.

While you can get the tool pictured above from Stewart-MacDonalds, apparently nobody makes a similar tool that'll last when chewing on SS, so the tangs have to be hand-ground. That's pretty labor-intensive, so assuming one of their fret people could do it, it would take them off-line for quite a while. That means no fretting the standard necks while that one is getting done, and pushing out delivery dates.

when I order a neck from scratch, I always ask for binding, and I never go with SS. why? if I have to change frets, and I always have to, I can have SS frets installed later on, but having binding done afterwards is a PITA. so. no SS frets on fresh builds.

Thanks for that.

How often to nickel frets need to be replaced?  Everyone talks about needing guitars refretted, but I'm yet to have any issues with mine.  I believe all my guitars have SS frets...

it depends on your playing style, the strings you use, how often and how much you play, the fret profile, and probably a couple/few other things that aren't coming immediately to mind. So, it's tough to say. Some people may go a lifetime, others may need at least a level/crown/dressing in a year or less.

If you wanna know weather or not you have stainless frets, heres an easy way to check,

take a grinder and start grinding on your frets , if the sparks are blue, then they are nickle, if they are white they are stainless.

Just kidding , don't do it, I just made all that up
