I do. She's the neighbors dog, and she bites.

Speculate.

Nice. Takes me back. Way back. Back into time. When the only people that existed were troglodytes. Cave men. Cave women. Neanderthals...

I was about 10 years old, and taking guitar lessons from some gypsy-type guitar teacher guy who'd also rent you a guitar for $5/mo. I'd been into it long enough that I knew I had to own one, but had no good way to do that. So, snow shoveling, grass cutting, leaf raking, etc. got me to the point after about 6 months where I was up about $20.

Yeah, they didn't pay much back then.

Anyway, the local guitar store had some student guitars for about $25, which is what I had my eye on. Not much better than the rent-a-wreck I was playing, but they were new, and it would be mine. All mine. And if anybody touched it, I would be justified in killing them. After all, it was gonna be my ticket to ride out to California and marry Marcia Brady. Or, agent 99. Maybe even Ginger, if she ever got off that stupid island. But, Marcia was my best bet. Little did I know...

So, summer comes and one of my buddies falls into this guitar from his grandfather, who'd just died. It's a Gibson something-or-other that looked exactly like the one you're showing above, but with a different finish - sort of a tobacco burst. He brings it over, and offers to sell it to me for $25. $25! I wanted that thing so bad I could taste it. But, my mother wouldn't give me my money, saying I should just wait and think about it.

Hate her? I hated that bitch with the white-hot burning intensity of a thousand suns. I screamed, I cried, I stomped around, ranted, raved, you name it. If I'd have had a gun...

But, whaddaya gonna do? Being 10 is a special kind of hell when it comes to options.

Turns out, she'd put one of those student guitars in layaway some months back for my birthday, so she was sure she'd be vindicated for this heinous act. And, of course, she was. I loved her all over again. Little did I know that an ancient arch-top Gibson acoustic would be worth a house in the 'burbs 45 years later. Although, to be fair, I'm sure I would have sold it somewhere along the line anyway.

Now, story time's over. Go to sleep.

Very nice. Now allow me to talk bad about your mother... :laughing7:

One step closer, this was originally a two tone burst.

Archtops are way cool. But I've always wondered if 'Epiphone ' was supposed to be pronounced more like 'Epiphany' than epi-fone, and nobody ever got it.
