Who is....

Having seen Dread Zeppelin, I honestly believe Buttboy could create a riff even he could not play.

It was actually ment to be a trick question, I was just seeing whowas paying attention....And Markeau hit it on the nose.....Because it has to do with "all things that are hard rock and heavy metal"......Not that I agree with the answer, I have my own views on the subject.... :party07:

Also, David Coverdale has not aged in the last 20 years!!

Um... I write riffs I can't play and melodies I can't sing. All the time. That's why this is Rock'n'Roll. If this were Jazz, I'd have to play it for it to sound good. Maybe we should all join Indie bands.

such an ULTIMATE guitar god, that they themselves could create a riff that even they couldn't play.....? :laughing7:
Jeff Beck, and he has bascially admitted as such after his Guitar Shop CD years ago.

Sorry but it ain't Jeff Beck, key phrase, "all things hard rock and heavy metal...." Beck is a blues player, and just a notch above Jimi Vaughn.....Not that impressive from what I've listened to....sorry to all the Beck bandwagoneers, but that's just me....

metal riffs are too easy, very repetitive, this would be a Jazz thing like DiMeola.

the answer is right in our faces, like the answer to the question, How do you get a bass player off your front porch ?  You pay him for the pizza.

Beck is a Blues player?  Is that like being a Marine?  There's no such thing as a former Marine?  Once a Blues player, always a Blues player?  Most recently, I've only seen him play Blues when someone else is sitting in.  What to call Beck depends on when you're talking about?  The Jimmie Vaughn thing, for whetever reason, a lot of tone heads Austin way revere him more than little brother.

Have you heard anything from him past 1974?

Here's something a bit more recent (not that you are required to like it or anything):

Hey you can say what you want, but Beck was one of the biggest influences that brought Fusion in as a sellable form of music, without his stuff like Freeway Jam and Constipated Duck no one would have heard of the Genre.
I have way more Beck recordings that Via's stuff.

...so Jeff Beck pops his head around the corner and mentions a little sweet shop on the edge of town...

Beck, or more accurately, that genre, is an acquired taste. Fusion is sorta rock, sorta jazz. Kinda like jazz with more assertive drums, bass, and timing or rock with a melody. For me, it doesn't get the blood pumping; I don't find myself gradually edging up to 85mph on the freeway like I do when listening to some things. It's more of a pleasant nod to what you like, if you like both rock and music, rather than the full-tilt boogie of "Surfing with the Alien". It's not something you'd "love" as much as just enjoy hearing.

Re-reading that, I realize I just described the Muzak version of "Purple Haze" <grin>

Jeff Beck ain't my thang at all, but this forum has given me the greatest respect and appreciation for him.  The old fart that loves to play and has never quit learning.  His contemporaries from the 60s and 70s are still playing what they were 40 years ago.

I have his latest dtuff, and yes there is a lot of it since 74

I like it, would not say that I would rate it as my favorite, but it is fresh, and not the same ole stuff he did in 74

I think he is a talented guitarist who stretches his boundaries and style.
