Ok, we'll start with three pics and give it a day or two . . . if you can't guess, I'll start giving clues  :icon_thumright:

happy guessing!

ha, good job folks! 3 slide faders, with the sliders extended at an angle. (just try drawing it an think about how it would work if they were straight, and you'll find out why the angle  :icon_thumright:).

Each of the three pickups (this is for three, obviously one for four would be simpler, as would one for two, obviously). Each corner of the triangle represents a pickup, and each pickup is wired thru BOTH faders corresponding to their corner, requiring both faders to be faded somewhat towards the corner for the pickup to be engaged. the joystick can simply be anchored to the inside of the guitar cavity via a small u-joint, and the faders attached to the pickguard.

I'm a real mechanical kinda guy, tho, and I dunno what type of faders I would need to acquire to put this together???

each one fades between two pups. so each pup is given a "corner", and one side on the two faders making up that corner. the pup "Volume" goes thru both faders (aka both must be faded . . .) aka the selector must be all the way in the corner.  :icon_jokercolor: I'll put some labels on it if you like  :icon_thumright:

That makes some sense. What kind of configuration would be kind of disastrous though if the outputs weren't matched. Also, this configuration would mean that you'd have to have at least two pickups audible at all times though, wouldn't it?

It's the Flux Capacitor!  :headbang:

what it might look like with some nice leather covering over the triangular opening (surrounding the switch tip like the cover on your car's shift knob, with the shaft up thru the middle).

This is a great idea, really cool! Most cool ideas have a habit of already having been had though, so maybe there are some examples out there of people trying this?
I could definitely see myself using this. Much better than fiddling with individual volumes or blend knobs.

Like the idea to make it like a cars shift knob, would look pretty different, maybe you should give it this paint job and make it the muscle guitar  :laughing8:

like this:

Need to lose the three connections going to your volume/tone stack, and tie the three wipers together (not shown, but implied) and run that to the output. Otherwise, you can ride that joystick like a cheap hooker and never get anything done.

What you need is actually a crossfader. They are pretty abundant thanks to mixmaster DJ guys tearin them up. :guitaristgif: :guitaristgif:

yep. I'm pretty sure I specified faders, not pots, and yes, that's exactly the kind I mean.

Cagey, like I said, I'm no electrician, all I understand is that it needs to be wired somehow so that BOTH sliders need to be letting signals thru for a particular pup to send the signal on (as opposed to either one or the other sending the signal). and no, you can select only one pup by putting the selector all the way in one corner. (effectively sliding both of that pup's faders all the way on). Also, all pups should send signal in the middle of the triangle  :icon_biggrin:

As far as pickup output, I would put some internal pots under the guard that could be preset to balance things out.

I wish I had funding to develop this, but alas, I don't even have a guitar I could test it on. If I buy a cheap strat or something (to tide me over till my W purchase), you can bet yo booty I'll be trying this out.

I'm addicted to tinkering, and I'm a big fan of retardedly intuitive User Interface, something many things lack. It's just exactly a fader, except instead of fading between two extremes, it fades between three. (I may make a 4 way, as it would be a heck of a lot more stable.)

I'm positive that you didn't mention pots. You implied you were at a bit of an impasse so I decided to chime in and point out that it wasn't a regular fader but a crossfader. I thought if correct terminology was used it would make your quest a little easier.  Sorry if you were offended guy. Didn't think it was that big of a deal and I wasnt trying to come off like a know it all. Whatever bro, good luck anyway.

nah, we're good. not offended in the least. I never take internet stuff too seriously  :icon_tongue:

Thank god there is someone out there that doesn't :laughing7:
