Which cables should I go for?

I am sick of buying cheap ass cables. I need two good ones, my options are Orange crush ten, ernie ball six four one two flex. And fender original surf green. If you have any other options then please please recommend, i need long lasting good cable, I am a broke ass college student.

I agree, rolling your own is the most cost effective. Otherwise check out JerroStomps on Reverb.

Soldering up instrument cables is not difficult. Neutrik plugs are very good especially the Silent Plug. There are many brands of cable that are top notch. You can do it for less money and can customize the length and the plugs, right angle or straight.

If you don't feel like building your own (weird I know since this is a Warmoth forum), another very economical option is Seismic Audio on Reverb; very, very cheap prices on weird length cables, often in bundles. Has helped me reduce 12 feet in my normal 4-cable setup and also been a great solution for patchbay balanced connections.

I buy my cable and plugs in "bulk" from Markertek with Canare GS6 or Mogami w2524 (my fav) for cable and Neutrik NP2X (straight) or NP3RX (right-angle). For silent jacks I use NP2RX-AU-SILENT (straight) or NP2RX-AU-SILENT (right angle). Amphenol TM2RJ and TM2PJ plugs are also highly regarded but they can be harder to find.

Either way, there's a ton of youtube videos on how to properly solder these plugs onto cabling -- so if you want some premium cabling but your budget is tight you can save money. Caveat: if you literally just need 1 cable it's probably best to just buy something off-the-shelf. The savings can be significant only when you're building 3 or more.

Just a reminder, I would avoid the STAR-QUAD; it is great for low-Z mic cabling but has higher capacitance. (reducing the high-end on longer cable runs)
Canare and Mogami both make a "guitar cable" more suitable for high-impedance applications... (like the GS6 mentioned two post above)

If I recall, I use the star quad cable and the impedence difference is negligible for ~15 feet of cable. matter more if you are going like 50 feet.

I know making your own cables is probably the best option for most here on the Warmoth forum. But if you can't or don't want to, save up and get some really good ones. A good set of cables is an investment.

After years of having cheap cables break, I finally bit the bullet and bought six Mogami gold cables, of varying lengths from 3' to 18'. That was 15 or 20 years ago. They've been cared for carefully but have also gotten their share of abuse like being stepped on, more times than I'll admit to. They were used in a couple of NAMM show booths and survived that punishment.

Mogami Gold is kind of expensive. But I just checked Sweetwater, and saw there is something called Mogami CorePlus for a lot less. It uses Neutrik connectors and what seems like high quality cable construction and outer covering. If you just need two cables - say a 10' for main guitar, and a 5' to go into the amp, The Gold cables are well above $100, but those lengths of CorePlus are well under $100. A lot of the difference is probably the lifetime warranty. But if the less expensive cable isn't subjected to severe abuse it will no doubt last a very long time. I knew an audio engineer who wired up his small but well equipped studio with Mogami cable. He felt like it was worth it, and that was a lot of cable.

If someone more knowledgeable than me disagrees, that's fine. I'm not an expert, or affiliated, just a satisfied user.

If you can't roll your own, go to Best-Tronics. They will build for you what you want using quality stuff. You want Canare with Nuetrik shorting. Yep they will build it for you. Just tell them the length desired.
