I am set on getting a goncalo alves neck with a pau ferro fretboard. The body will be carved from a warmoth body blank, but I'm not sure which wood could look closest to the goncalo in color when it is finished. Any suggestions to woods or finishing methods?

personally I don't like it too much if the neck (and/or fingerboard) matches the body, I always try to go for a contrast.
but that is just my preference.
if you are going to stain it, or use a transparent finish, go for Swamp Ash. most of W's Mahogany have a nice ribbon-ish pattern to it, so that would work too..

With apologies to Warmoth for doing them out of business, if you're going to carve the body yourself, how about buy a block of Gonk and rout it yourself with the Stew Mac templates, if you want a match?

"Block of Gonk" sounds like a good album title!
...MAYBE it would look cool with Korina? Not too matchy, but i think the two grains would get along well.

I don't have the kind of experience required to work completely from scratch. I will be using a W body blank.

thanks guys. I just cruised the search results for goncalo in the forum search engine and I think Ima gonna go with mahogany. There is a great looking goncalo lam/mahogany core strat body that looks great!

Block of gonk, in between Korina, or Saple and Maple, ..all but Walnut. Not sure if you'sd like Zebrawood ..a libra would.
Then again, you might like Ash for the cash. Personally, I like Mahogany ( if they stock any). Cant go wrong with limba( even on a  marimba).

As soon as i can. I just got a steady job so I'll order my neck and body blank soon, i hope. Just a few more months sweepin floors should do it i think....
