I finally have the time/motivation to get to work on my project. Blue Stain Strat (diy) with a all birdseye pro thin neck (tru-oil)
I'm using some quilted maple pen blanks (from Woodcraft) as a test bed for my stain. I just want to get the color right.
While messing with the pen blanks I thought I'd get started on the neck. I haven't really handled the neck that much, even though it's been hanging around for a year, but I didn't really sand down or clean the neck that much before I applied the first coat of tru-oil.
It's been 2 years since I finished my korina strat with a tru-oil finish and I can't really remember how I did the neck. I know that Warmoth dip's the neck in sealer. But what I'm wondering is if I should sand off the first coat and use naptha or something to be sure I don't have any hand oil trapped in the finish.
What do you guys think?
