What the heck is Ovangkol?!

I've played a raw ovangkol/wenge/ovangkol bass neck... I would have guessed it was rosewood if I hadn't known.  Nice wood.

No clue, I don't have a good ear for bass tones and anyway I was playing through a guitar amp.  It felt nice, though!  I think it was a Warwick.  Good luck  :icon_thumright:

Yep, Warwick is well known for using Ovangkol.

Ovangkol is also known as Shedua.
I think Warmoth had some Shedua lam tops in the gallery.

also sometimes called amazaque

i have made a couple of guitar necks from it - its great for oiled necks.  I would say the tone is similar to a rosewood neck - but just a little snappier, not quite as warm.  It tends to vary from a pale tan colour to quite dark and streaky

a nice wood
