hey guys

what size socket would I use for adjusting the truss rod on a W neck? I didnt want to buy the $100+ set on stew mac just get the one I needed at the hard ware store.

It's not a socket, it's an allen wrench, which cost like $5 for a set.

Kind of depends on where the adjuster is.  Heel, side, or peghead (13 degree or straight) adjust?

woops! forgot to say. 13 degree angled W style head stock. adjuster at head stock. looks like a socket to me not an alen wrench adjustable thing.

Oh my bad.  :)  I'll go check mine...

Wow, I don't have a wrench that can adjust this neck!  :tard:  9/32" is definitely too small, but the next size up, 5/16", doesn't fit into the truss rod adjustment slot... Guess I have the same question as you!  :laughing7:

It needs to be relatively thin walled.  You might find something suitable at the hardware store.  Just make sure you have a long extension to clear the tuners and peghead.

Thanks Willy and blue!  I think I'll order one of these... it'll fit in my guitar case.  http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for:_Truss_rods/1/Pocket_Truss_Rod_Wrenches/Pictures.html#details
