What pickup models fits these holes??

Hey you all. Hope its ok to start a new thread on this subject.

I just received this sexy pickguard. Orderred as HSS. I laughed a bit when i opened it though, no chance i can fit my OBL 900XL (with typical "EMG" housing) in that "humbucker" routed hole. And those two small drilled holes above the HB opening, replacing the "one drill hole" i expected?? Which pickups fits here?

Cheers!

There's quite a few makers doing that type of mount as an optiion in some cases.

Fender being one I think. When you ordered was there an option for two or three holes ?

Hey stratamania. Thanx for reply. Nope, there wasnt any "2 or 3 hole" option when i orderred. Only the more familiar "HSS or SSS" etc. And i didnt question that, until now i took for granted that "Humbucker" simply meant "humbucker the way i know them" :icon_jokercolor: ... learning things here...

So Fender is to check out... or maybe some hand-wiring pickup maker can do this as an option... Or maybe i can modify the mounting ear on some pickup myself. I dont like the idea of drilling a new hole in the middle of the two, that would destroy the design.

Cool guard. Does look to be the current Fender hss fit:

Seems a bit weird that it's their only option though, and they don't appear to even mention that it's a 'fat humbucker' type cut or the 3 screw mount.

Thanx for more response:)

Yep, Fat Pete, i see the "original" dimension there... Fender it is. And i just did some googling, and understood the idea with two screws; the ability to tilt the pickup (or maybe rather to keep it untilted...).

drewfx: Perfect. Such an adaptor seems definately to solve the dual screw-problem. I am thinking of a similar diy solution.

Then... I really had decided to use my OBL900 XL on this project... which doesnt fit anyway. So i have two options i think... Get another pickup or route the pickup hole in this pickguard more square. hmm. I have to think twice before I decide which way to go.

Well.

I am proud to here present the ultra-shiny highgloss metallion-batallion one2two-screw-adaptëur, very suitable for one2two-screw adaptiön applications!  :party07:

The material is FR4 (the stuff you find in PCB-s), i guess it shall be durable enough for this, and it was friendly enough to selfthread with the screws i had at hand.

More fun: the screw holes in the pickguard is too small, so i have to drill them up. No worries about that - i gladly drill three holes - but again, a bit fun! If you look close to the pic in the first post^^, note that the screw holes are bigger for the single coils than for the humbucker.

I have also noticed that screw width and threads are different for different pickups (brands?). Are there a few standards around, or do we completely go by chance here? I know the screws in the pic below are (sometimes) sold to fit "Fender Vintage strat or tele".

Ah, wtf. I woke up a little bit frustrated of having the project halted this weekend. I will go for routing up the hole to suite my square humbucker. Metal work! If i fail i can cover it all with an additional pickup ring.

I'll be back.

Cheeers.

Good luck!

I'll tell ya, though, the difference between woodworking and metalworking is bigger than you might imagine, as are the tools used. If you aren't a metalworker yourself, it might be worth considering hiring the work out. What you want/need done isn't complex, so it shouldn't cost much. Slow and sure wins the race.

I had to chuckle last time I was in the states as the bathroom whiteware was by American Standard. It changed my concept of what the phrase might mean. Prior to that I always thought of Fenders.

But it's not just in the U.S. Nothing can be assumed with guitar measurements.

It seems the only "Standard" coming out of FMIC these days is that they all start with an F-word.

It turned out pretty damm good. not a standard pickguard! And i am back on track again, feels great. I even have started to like those double-holes.

Cheers
