a lot of material on the web seems to slam korina - especially the "black" variety as lifeless in sound.

the claim is that most of the korina available today is not the same as what gibson used in its Vs and Explorers in the past.

any opinions? especially as a wood for thinlines?

Would you mind citing your sources?  Where do you see this?

That post seems to be just a few guy's opinions.. this forum has a few more guy's opinions..  :headbang:

Not a thinline, but I have a Korina/maple chambered LP with korina/ebony neck, and it sounds great.    My only gripe is that it was kind of a pain to fill the grain...took forever.

I don't get it - one guy on that thread had a korina guitar he didn't like. Others are being snarky or don't like the look. So what?

you can take it two ways:

at least half of the members here love Korina and consider it to be a superior tonewood!

the other half does not believe that body woods matter at all and have no effect on tone..

so either way you should be fine...

dont listen to them, they're romans. and by romans i mean ed roman sympathizers

I have a Warmoth LPS flattop of Black Korina, HXH pickups and tuneomatic/stop tailpiece bridge. The neck is Indian Rosewood shaft with ebony fretboard.
With a pair of old Jackson pickups in it, it just rocks. It covers trebly hard crunch to brown tone, and has a buttery full midrange. A great all round sound. I am going to buy black korina again for another Gibson-esque guitar, maybe a Hollow LPS, next time. I highly recommend this wood. It's like mahogany with a little more low-mid and treble. (But my neck may also be contributing to this impression.)
