Basswood with Spalted/Flamed Maple top, I'm really liking this top. I will definitely be getting a Warmoth neck for it. (Any suggestions welcome)
So far I'm thinking Bare Knuckle Piledriver Tele set and black hardware.

Also I was traded what I believe to be one of those Chinese PRS KIT/copies. Only thing is I thought those just had a veneer, this one has a full flamed top on a 2-piece Mahogany body.  Kid said he got it a few years ago and realized it would take more work than he wanted to put into it. The hardware is crap but the neck and body seem worthy of a lil project. Anyways, I decided to try to recreate that denim faded blue burst on it. We'll see, just might have some fun with it. Here it is:

I'm really excited about the Tele Build though. Been browsing all the Tele necks... drooling.

Looks really good! I suggest you to put lots of super-glue on the spalted before finishing, specially on the edges!

What is going to be the finish?
I think a dark neck will look awesome on it!

Before I got it in I was thinking CA, Polycryl or PolyAll 2000. But after getting it in it feels real solid like it's already been fortified so I'm not sure. As far as finish goes I was thinking Tru-oil for the spalt, still undecided about the basswood. I've read basswood doesn't dye or stain all that well, or so it seems (never tried). I guess it will all depend on what neck I decide to go with. I'm in no rush since this was an impulse purchase and not as planned out as the last 2 builds. But it should be a fun adventure. Perhaps I'll get my wife's input, it worked last time.

I'm with Nando, I think you need a Wenge or Indian Rosewood neck!

That thing is gorgeous! I have been having some SERIOUS spalted maple GAS lately.

And great job with the denim burst, that thing looks great!

Ok so I decided to go with the Walnut/Flamed Maple neck I've had my eye on:
So this will be on my new Tele.

I kicked around all rosewood or a flamed birdseye neck with either ebony or rosewood board. But ultimately this one looked best in all the mock ups.
Also the wife liked this one best. Since the spalted body was an impulse buy, gonna go with my gut feeling as a choice for the neck as well. Will post pics when it shows up.

Did you get that from Spaltking?  I had that one on my watched items list on Ebay.  With the BKP Piledrivers, you are going to want a brighter wood, otherwise it could sound too dark.  That walnut/maple neck should do quite nicely.

Yes I did get it from Spaltking. I've been browsing his stuff for months now and when I saw this one, I made an offer and a few hours later he accepted it. Poor me, I had to buy it then. [Shucks] ::kicks a rock:: Oh Well I guess I'll suffer through it.  :icon_biggrin:
I think it will balance nicely with this neck too. I'll be putting a tummy cut and contouring the heel/lower horn on the body.

That is gonna look good! Man I just looked through that guys stuff, and its awesome! I wonder where he gets his spalt from. I want some so bad! :laughing7:

Got the neck in a few days ago

Quarter Sawn Walnut / Flamed maple
10-16 compound radius
graphtech nut
6105's with abalone dots

Once again Warmoth amazes me with their outstanding quality work. Will be nice to have a neck I don't have to finish this time around.
I'll be give her a fret leveling, dress and polish the frets as I've done for the last few necks from W. They always have required so very little adjustment, almost to the point where you could throw them on and play right out of the box with nothing more than a truss adjustment. I have a feeling it will be the same with this one. But since i have the tools I'll give myself the piece of mind knowing the frets are spot on. I guess this will be what you guys call a Halfmoth.

I'll get some shots with the body after the current coat of Tru-Oil dries and start a thread in Work in Progress.

Seems kinda light for Walnut. No matter, though. That's a fine-looking piece.

I agree, I was quite surprised with how light in color it is. I gave up trying to match the body with it.
