Knowing the band or who was playing it is as much a help with finding it on the internet as anything.  Sounds like someone is playing one of Max's photoshop jobs.

Haha that's what I was thinking :P
That's what I was thinking. In fact, I'll mock one up now.

That's ALSO what I thought you would do if you'd see that post :laughing7:

while we have a "what is this" thread fresh and running. I was at a show a few weeks ago and the guy was playing what looked like a Firebird, but the lower horn was more "SG"ish, and it had the traditional Gibson Headstock. It was a silver burst if i remember correctly with 2 humbuckers. I was pretty floored by the sound and couldnt figure out what it was and havent found pics of it on the internet as of yet. Anybody know off the cuff what it might have been??

That sounds like it could have been the Gibson Shark Fin, except for the traditional headstock.

AHAAAA Finally found a pic of these guys

"VERY RARE 1968-1969 GIBSON LES PAUL DOUBLE CUTAWAY 1 OF 6 CUSTOMIZED BY STRINGS AND THINGS. This is a late 1968-69 Les Paul Standard, 1 piece mahogany body, Maple top, mahogany neck. This guitar was modified by Strings and Things of Memphis in 1975, likely the First of 6 they did from 1975-1985. 4 of the 6 were built for or sold to rock legends. Who got them, Greg Lake (Emerson Lake and Palmer) got one. The guitarist for the group (America) got one, and one was built for Ace Frehley (KISS) and Pat Travers was reported to own one."

And I'm changing my mind. It isn't even worth finishing making. It doesn't look good at all.

That silverburst RD is the newer reissue of the rare original RD but without all the fancy Moog circuitry. It just has 2 hot ceramic magnet humbuckers.

I once saw an original late 70's RD at my local guitar store. The neck and body were mahogany finished in translucent cherry, with a traditional headstock and pearl trapezoid inlays on a yellowed maple fretboard. I had never seen an RD before, so my first reaction was, "What the hell happened to that SG? Was someone drunk at the Gibson factory?" It was only $900 too. I should have bought it then cause when I went back a few weeks later it was gone.  :(

yeah I looked at it and was like "dang somebody tortured that poor firebird" then he started playing it and I was really liking the sound so I was curious as to what it was.
