wenge variation?

Looking at the BK necks in the showcase it occured to me: the wenge I've seen has got be the one of the most uniform woods I've seen.

Is there any variation (color or grain) to speak of in wenge?

All the pieces I've seen in real life have been the same way - very uniform. No question it's wenge when you see it. Of course, part of that instant ID is also the freakishly coarse grain.
