A lot of folks complained when they put the BB-Pro in the Les Paul as standard pickups. A lot of folks said it made the guitar too bright. Couple that with the chambering on the newer ones, and those folks might be satisfied. On the BFG, they use an already pretty hot P90 at the neck, and it wont stand much treble roll off before the tone becomes as crisp as wet toilet paper. Same guitar, the BB (not pro) #3 at the bridge does a respectable job of matching the P90 and maintaining a little bit of zip on the top end.
On the other hand... I find myself dialing the LP standard down quite a bit. It is fairly bright. I usually play with both pickups, volume full on the neck, tone set to no cut of the treble. On the bridge, I'll use the tone control to roll off some treble and then use the volume knob as a bit of a tone control - by reducing the amount that the bridge pickup effects the overall tone.
